The American Corner At Nhlangano National Library
On February 16, 2005, the United States Ambassador to Swaziland, His Excellency Lewis Lucke, officially opened the American Corner at the Swaziland National Library Service’s Nhlangano Branch.
American Corners are partnerships between the Public Affairs Sections of U.S. Embassies and host country institutions. They provide access to current and reliable information about the U.S. via book collections, the Internet, and through local programming to the general public. Sponsored jointly by the U.S. Embassy and the Swaziland National Libraries, the Nhlangano American Corner serves as an information center similar to a public library reference service. The multi-media, book and periodical collections are open and accessible.
The American Corner in Nhlangano has four computers with Internet access for research purposes, an HIV/AIDS book collection, non-fiction and fiction books, commercial materials, including some about the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), human rights materials, the Encyclopedia Encarta and Britannica on CD-ROM, and information about universities in the United States.
American Corners operate in more than 88 countries worldwide. There are 35 American Corners in sub-Saharan Africa.
